Fostoria American Glassware

One of our collectibles interest is Fostoria American pattern.  This was a popular glassware pattern that was produced by Fostoria Glass Company produced for a long time, from 1915 until 1986, and was reproduced as Whitehall line by Indiana Glass Company from 1987.

Here is an example of a Fostoria American pitcher.  This particular pitcher features an ice lip.  The glass is thick and the pitcher is fairly heavy and substantial.  One of the main identifying characteristics of a Fostoria American piece is the quality of workmanship.

One of the identifying characteristics of some types of Fostoria American pieces is presence of three or more  mold lines.  The pieces were made with three or more mold parts, creating corresponding mold lines.  If you encounter a plate or a glass (stem, tumbler, cup, etc.) that has only two mold lines, be careful, this may be a Whitehall series reproduction.  Some dealers don't know the difference or are unscrupulous and try to pass Whitehall as Fostoria American.
